ANZAC Service 2012

I've been talking to Spinner and since we have a fair few Australians and New Zealanders on this forum and we have decided there will be an ANZAC service. I know this a little late but don't complain.

So I will invite a few people up to speak. Then we will have the ode, the Last Post and then a minute silence as well. So now let the service begin.

ANZAC Service 2012 Anzac11

Welcome to this service here at Sports R Us. Today we will be honouring and remembering the ANZACs who fought in Gallipoli and the Western Front. The Gallipoli landing was bloody and violent and silly. But we ANZACs tried to fight through the heavy gun-fire but it didn't make a different. Turks were shooting left right and centre, so it would have been pretty hard to fight through. Many dads, brothers and sons didn't return home. The few who returned home had known they'd lost their mates. It was horrific but they had been brave to go through that heavy gun-fire. The Western Front was also horrific and tens of thousands losing their lives when they the battled the Germans. The ANZACs did however come out victorious and was one of the biggest and most important victories. If Australia didn't win that war, then it would have left the gates open for the Germans to invade Paris. So as we now know the ANZACs will be remembered for a long time to come.

Lest we forget.

Now I invite Mr. Doggy to give a speech,

They gave they live for us, they fought a gruesome battle for our safety, they feared nothing only for the good of their country, they're the reason why that we can stand proud to be an Aussie.

We remember them
Lest we forget

Now a poem:
Flanders fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae (1872–1918)

What dose ANZAC day mean to me, well it means a day in which I get out of bed at 8:00am, catch up on homework and or assignment and have a B.B.Q with family and friends. That is all well and good, but the main reason I believe is to thank those who have severed and are serving. No matter what campaign or what battle, every Australian who has served under the rising sun has a place my heart about those men and women, who everyday don't get up and go and sit in office, but brave life for the safety and security in which Australia has today.

Before I go I would like to make a quote that I find sums up ANZAC Day, it is by Banjo Patterson and it is this "ANZAC's make Australian Stand Tall".

Thanks & Lest We Forget

Hello all and welcome to this wonderful day that we call ANZAC Day. The reason we are here today is because of all those brave soilders. They had fought in both WW1 and WW2. We are so lucky we had those people there to do that for us, if they had not done that, we would not be here today. So we need to thanks those brave men and women for doing what the did. Everything that happens around Australia for ANZAC Day is just so lovely & shows that people really to care, young an old.

It is so great to have a sport like AFL in Australia, with a great game being Essendon vs Collingwood. It is a great way for those players and everyone else that comes to the game to remember those soilders who lost there life trying to save our lives.

Lest We Forget ♥♥

Thank you Honourable Mr. CJ Corka.
Now let me give you a speech said by Mr. Kemal Ataturk (the first prime minister of the Republic of Turkey) which he said to the first Australians in Gallopoli.

Those heroes that shed their blood
And lost their lives.
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side
Here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers,
Who sent their sons from far away countries
Wipe away your tears,
Your sons are now lying in our bosom
And are in peace
After having lost their lives on this land they have
Become our sons as well."

Thank you Mr. Sydeh

To quote the Rememberance Ode from the poem For The Fallen by Robert Laurence Binyon (1869-1943);

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

Thank you Mr. Hen for that. Now this is the conclusion of today's SRU ANZAC day service. Thanks for coming along and viewing this marvelous ceremony. If you have any comments please leave some to help us improve this for a maybe next year service. And just before we go here are some wreaths which were laid.

Discovered today that my Great Uncle died in the Battle of Crete.
Was a timely reminder of how the World Wars truly affected all of us.

Seems as you lot forgot about it:
